I mean really, who wants to kiss the battle axes on the left? And notice how many more placard carrying dudes there are below…and their message is direct and clear (not passive/aggressive like the women’s) and they are wearing car coats – very Mad Men. And the women on the left are Suffragettes and the men are from the Prohibition era, but you get the picture, right?
We will never stop the consumption of alcohol. It’s too important to too many people. People who UNITE and carry signs…
Alcohol has played a central role in almost all human cultures since Neolithic times (about 4000 BC). All societies, without exception, make use of intoxicating substances, alcohol being by far the most common.
We alcoholics can pretend that a modern day Temperance Movement is in the offing. We can hope for the proliferation of alcohol free clubs and pubs, and brewery-born soda pop in deceptive bottles. We can imagine an easier way to go about our booze-less existence with little temptation and a new COOLNESS to sobriety. Sober is the new black and all that rot.
We can hawk and soapbox-preach like the crazies on the corner screaming, “THE END IS NEAR!” but think about how much attention the average passerby pays them.
I’m not saying, “If you can’t beat them, join them.”
I’m just saying, “Deal with it, alkies. Hooch is here to stay.”
