I was on a long, cold walk this morning, before the snow storm. All the signs of spring beginning: resilient crocus and daffodils on greening lawns. When I looked out the window and saw the snow coming down afterwards, I tried to remember where I’d seen a field of spring flowers, because I wanted to go back and take pictures. I knew there would be something poignant about the contrast between new life trying to happen and the persistence of winter’s jurisdiction.
So I drove back, and took some pictures and the whole time I was thinking of Jurassic Park and my favorite character, Dr. Alan Grant when he says, “Life will not be contained. Life breaks free. Life expands to new territories. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But life finds a way.”
Happy sober Saturday….
