I’ve Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts…

Puerto Rico’s most deadly pitfalls…

Jon Jon says he read somewhere that more people die each year from being hit on the head with coconuts than being struck by lightning. I think of it every time I walk beneath a palm tree.

It’s one of life’s classic pitfalls – no one prepares for it. We run indoors when thunder booms. We watch the horizon carefully for shark fins whenever we venture into the ocean (thanks Steven Spielberg), but we never wear a hard hat or even look up in a copse of palm trees. Play the song now.

A coconut falling from a 98 foot tree has a force the equivalent of a ton as it hits the ground.150 people die from falling coconuts each year as compared to 23 from lightning strikes and less than one from shark attacks..

So on this beautiful Saturday I’m not going to worry. I might even be a little silly. I’m not going to plan for all of the potential dangers this world drops in my lap or on my head.  Why should I? God only knows from whence they come…

Today I’m not drinking because there’s falling coconuts. Some as big as your head!!!

How come you’re not drinking?
