The Healing Power of Laughter…

Last night Kim and Dee and I watched the 40th Anniversary of Saturday Night Live together.  I’m in Jacksonville and its been a couple months since I’ve seen either of  them.   We sat in Kim’s theater with lap blankets and gassy water, and laughed until our sides hurt, we cried, we were weak, and any other cliché you can think of, for several hours of the kind of hands-down hilarity that actually restores the spirit. There is nothing like it is there?  Sitting with best friends and laughing…

One of the things I always cite when anyone asks me how I got sober, is laughter.  As you well know, I try to find humor in the most difficult situations and there’s been a sticky wicket or two on my road to recovery.  Laughter can be a release and a relief.  It may say something about my family, but some of the best and funniest times I can remember with them, are while gathered in a viewing room of a funeral parlor, recounting stories of passed love ones and laughing collectively.

I’m tired.  I’ve had a couple of late nights so I’ll make this short and sweet.

Laughter is empowering.  Find something to laugh about today.

Today I’m not drinking because I’m laughing at this crazy thing called life…

How come you’re not drinking?
